The Application of RFID Technology in Bus Station

The construction of digital city is a complicated system project involving aspects such as government affairs, transportation and community. RFID technology can digitally record citizens’ living and consumption information and reflect them into the relevant information system of the city. The integrated management of city information provides the necessary data and analysis.

The traditional electronic bus stop system uses the vehicle GPS to achieve the station reporting. After many years of operation, it faces three challenges in practical application: First, it needs large investment and high operation cost. Second, large power consumption, bus battery loss, resulting in paralysis of the entire GPS reporting system. Third, GPS can not work accurately on rainy days.

RFID electronic stop sign uses active RFID technology. The RFID readers are installed on the electronic stop sign and RFID tags are installed on the vehicle. When the bus passes through the station, the station identifies the bus RFID electronic tag data and the data are transmitted to the control center as basic functions of data in a newspaper station.

This system consists of RFID tags, RFID station reader and electronic station backstage system. The RFID tag is installed in the bus and the bus ID information is written inside. The RFID reader is installed at the station and connected with the electronic station control unit through an RS485 interface or an RJ45 interface to read the electronic tag information of the vehicle and to stop the vehicle the situation is judged. The vehicle information is transmitted to the electronic station license master control unit, the electronic station license master control unit via 4G wireless network data back to the business system platform.

The application of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in BRT priority system makes full use of the technical advantages of RFID: it is not effected by harsh environment, it can be used repeatedly and it has long-distance non-contact identification. It is enable to make linkage between car and signal to improve the efficiency of bus operation.
